Save the Elephants
The elephants are the animals which have a large size than other animals. They are very important animals in Thailand both of in the past and the present time. In the past, Thai
elephants can help Thai people a lot in the war. They were helped Thai hero to protect the
kingdom of Thailand and fright with the enemy such as King Narai, King Narasaun, and King Taksin. On the other hand at the present time, Thai elephants are threatening by Thai
people, so Thai elephants are decreasing rapidly. Thai people should save the elephants
urgently, by expanding the elephants, stopping to use the elephants in the wrong way, and
stopping to hunt the elephants for wanting ivory.
Thailand should expand the elephants for increasing a number of elephants more than
this time. For forty years ago, there were 40,000 elephants in Thailand, but now there are only
5,000 elephants. In the past, Thai elephants lived in the forest which near the river and they
breed with the elephants in another place. As the result, it makes the elephants were outside
inbreeding. However, in present the elephants spread in the conservable forest which is a little
forest and disconnect with the other forest, so it makes the elephants inbreeding which is a
cause of death and extinction. Thus, Thailand should plant the forest for elephants to live and
must not snatch the habitat of the elephants.
Thai people should not use the elephants in the wrong way. Everyday, they still use
the elephants work hard. They are ruthless the elephants such as they burn the rump of the
elephants for stimulating them to pull the log, and they are violent to punish the elephants.
Sometimes, the elephants do not rest and eat, so they are weak and hungry so much. Beside,
some people use the elephants to get money in the big city especially in Bangkok. The
elephants must walk along the road for a long way, and sometime they fall into the pipe. As the result, there are many elephants which are hurt and die in average about 150 elephants
per year. We should pity on them, and make them to be happy when they live with the
people.
A lot of people who live in the border between Thai and Myanmar should not cutting
the ivory of the elephants for selling in the foreign country, because it makes the elephants are
very hurt and die later. They favor to hunt the elephant’s ivory because is very high price.
Also, they make the ivory to be a sculpture for a decoration and offerings which make the
ivory more expensive about 50,000-100,000 baht that more than half the price at the last
time. The main customers are in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taipei and Japan. They very like to
buy the product of the ivory. Thus, we should give information to the people in the border
stop hunting the elephants and give an opportunity job to them.
I hope that Thai people and other people in the world should pity on the elephants and
join together to save the elephants, because at this moment number of the elephants decrease
rapidly. Furthermore, the elephants are very important animals which help Thai people a lot in
the past and the present time. If we did not have the elephants to help us in the past, we would
not be our country, Thailand, as today. We should conserve them before them extinct, and
also the every country needs to unite in saving the remaining elephants.
